Archdeacon Juan Sandoval is designing a series of sessions that will be held at the Center for Racial Healing beginning in mid-September. These sessions will coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month to provide a deeper understanding of the issues facing our sisters and brothers who are living among us as refugees, undocumented persons and citizens who are suspect simple because their skin is brown. The Center will be inviting twelve designated parishes at a time to send a representative to these sessions over the next three months. The intention is that those who attend will return to their parishes to share what they have learned and take leadership in helping to mobilize their parishes for action around the issues in the ways that suit their particular resource base. There are many ways to respond to this crisis that is happening on our watch and all of us have to wake up, stay awake and remain totally committed to doing whatever we can to interrupt the negative energy that has been unleashed toward our Latina/o sisters and brothers. Hopefully, those who read this newsletter in other parts of the wider church will be encouraged to do work similar to this or whatever other work you deem possible in the days and weeks to come. Please, share any ideas and actions that you have with us as well. All of us are responsible to work until substantial change comes. We cannot rest until it is done.
